Ranch

Ahh New Years Eve, a night over indulgence. And since I only have two (well now one) day until I give up dairy, I TOTALLY WENT TO NOM TOWN.

Get back into town trying to decide whether to kill myself over the entire situation (that by the way straight up didn't end until got to my front door) and I get a phone call from Sabrina saying she and her boyfriend Al are coming over to drop off the cat. "Well, looks like a naps out of the question, where's the kinfe?"

So we decide to get food. "No, not at that Thai Noodle place guys! I've only got two days left, give me CheeseMcCheeseMcmoreCheese.com!" Which we decided was going to be Fred 62.

To give my review of the place, it was *alright.* I'm not saying I didn't like it, I was just underwhelmed with that I ordered, which for the record was "The Tower of Babel" A vegetarian club with lettuce, tomato, mayo, avocado, crispy onions, chedder cheese." with fries of course (duh.) And as the waitress brought my food, I asked for my usual side of ranch. And then in dawned on me..... No more ranch....NO MORE RANCH?!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Well it was more like, "oh, bummer." But I'll go for the over-dramatic.

I have been getting a side of Ranch since I came out to California summer of junior year when my friend Alex ordered us fries from Johnny Rockets with a side of ranch. I was like, "Yo dude, that's weird." And she said, "No, just wait." And oh my god, life changer. With some ketchup? Yup.

See in the Washington D.C. area, or from what I remember, ranch isn't really a big thing there. Neither is their local Mexican food, it's so bleh. But in California, from what I gathered, it's a pretty common thing. Then my Sassy Ranch Dressing grew, when I started dating "lets go to San Francisco and get in a big fight" guy and he introduced me to the glory of hot sauce. Now here's the magic, put the ketchup in the ranch, sprinkle it was hot sauce on top. Best. Dip. Ever. Nine times out of ten people give me weird looks when I do it, but I don't care. It's that good.

So here's what I'm just gonna have to do, find my alternative to Ranch-Ketchup-Tapatio-Deliciousness. It looks like on this site I can make my own, which is pretty cool. And there seems to be a lot of other options. Maybe this won't be so bad?? *she says as she contemplates eating her cold ranch drenched leftover fries for lunch*

And speaking of, Last night was New Years Eve. (Holy crap it's 2012!!) And you know what that means... LATE NIGHT DINER FOOD!! omnomnomnom.

Started at Bar Covel, which is AWESOME. I totally recommend this bar. Food & Drinks are delish. The atmosphere is amazing and moderately grown up. You know, not some "fuck off, lets chug beer and get wasted type of place" ...which is why we changed locations. I mean, it's New Years Eve and we're not 30 yet. Let's be real.

What I like about this place is, they really know their wine, and walk you through a couple (free) samples until you find the one that's just right. I found out about it from one of my besties, Micah, since his friend owns the joint. And tried it out for the first time with the main squeeze a couple weeks ago (Yeah you love it MS, don't lie, your anonymous internet fame) And I have to say it is a GREAT date spot. So if you want to impress your guy or gal, take them there. Maybe why Main Squeeze became the MS, IDK.

But, after a glass of delicious pino grigo, my girlfriend Sammi & roomate Jeremy and I went on search of greener more NYE styled pastures...

BIRDS.

Alright, let's talk about Birds.

Birds is kind of one of those places you can't really describe. You just have to go. Specifically during their happy hours or after 10PM on the weekends. The music is great to party too, the vibe is awesome and everyone is "LA Cool" aka hot, but not Fuck Off Hot, because, you know, they're at Birds to get discounted drinks not at the Bazaar or something. (BEST STUFFED OLIVES THERE)

Just do yourself a favor. Pick a Friday night. And go to Birds. You will not regret it.

We however chose the 101 Cafe to bring in 2012. We ordered some CheeseMcCheese A lot grilled cheese w/tomato, fries, and blew Sammi's wine-drunk mind at 2AM....by introducing her to my not so secret Sassy Ranch Dressing. Our 2012 was brought in right.

Bye Bye Ranch :( & Happy New Years!
